Until the late 1980s, asbestos was a commonly used mineral in building materials, composed of millions of tiny fibres. However, inhaling airborne asbestos fibres can be hazardous, leading to lung tissue scarring (asbestosis) and various forms of cancer.

Because of the risk of serious illness, it’s important to know how to identify asbestos on a job site and how to contain it.

Our Asbestos Awareness Training Course will provide you with knowledge on asbestos and your health, legal obligations and duty of care, and asbestos risk management. This course does not give you a licence to remove asbestos.

For individuals:

• That may encounter asbestos or asbestos-containing materials in their workplace or in the course of their work on buildings built before 1990.
• That are renovating or performing maintenance on a property built before 1990.
• Wanting to make sure their skills and knowledge are up-to-date with the latest industry standards.

Please note that WorkSafe ACT mandates that workers in the Australian Capital Territory must complete a specific awareness course called “10675NAT". This is NOT that course.

For businesses:

• That need to ensure staff who might come into contact with asbestos or asbestos-containing materials in the course of their work are aware of SafeWork Australia’s requirements.
• That want a simple and easy way to manage staff training through an Employer Account, featuring a personalised company training page, streamlined payments, view staff progress on each course and access to staff certificates.

No, in the ACT you need to do the 10675NAT Asbestos Awareness course

Is this course accredited?
No, this is an awareness course only. However, this course meets the requirements of the various SafeWork departments in all States (except the ACT) for workers who may be exposed to asbestos-containing materials (ACM).

Will I get a licence when I complete this course?
No, this course has no licenced outcome, but you will receive a Statement of Completion and an Ammonite Asbestos Awareness ecard.
